positive posters

Melbourne designer Jesse Mallon talks about his winning poster design for Positive Posters 2010:

Being optimistic can be as easy as turning a frown into a smile. By flipping the letters upside down the audience is invited to take a second look at the poster to understand, and be inspired by, its message."

"Turn that frown upside down! was awarded first place in the international Positive Posters 2010 competition, selected from over 1500 entries. It was displayed as part of the finalists exhibition and then widely distributed, with 3000 copies pasted up around Melbourne and Sydney. ~ Jesse Mallon

Je t’aime

Jane Birkin’s style is the epitome of French fashion. Chic and basic yet with such an ease it looks as though she just strolled out of bed, tousled her hair, and grabbed the few pieces of clothing that were lying around. This relaxed hippie vibe complete with her signature fringe hairstyle inspired women throughout the world to loosen the grips of 1960′s mod fashion for a more natural beauty.

Jane Birkin (via Rathaus), set to inspire you all over again in the new film Gainsbourg.

My interview with Simon Robson

Simon Robson (aka Knife Party) will  speak today at Sydney’s SPAA Fringe Annual Conference for emerging filmmakers. Simon is Creative Director of Engine and directed the animation for the BAFTA nominated feature film Taking Liberties’. His most recent project is ‘Coalition of the Willing’ - an animated film and web-based event about an online war against global warming in a ‘post Copenhagen’ world.

I asked Simon some questions for Desktop Mag about the project and the interesting process of crowd-sourcing and you can see it over here...

supporting aiden

Meet Aiden. He is 5 years old and last month was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. While he has pulled through his first round of chemo,  Aidan must go through 2 to 3 more years of treatments. He spends quite a bit of time drawing and is now selling his fabulous art to pay for his medical bills. If you would like to support the little tacker, please visit his Etsy Store.

barbie gone bad

Mariel Clayton is a doll photographer based in Canada. Most of her photographs are so naughty or gory  (or both!) that I'm not going to post them on my blog but instead, if you are intrigued and aren't easily offended, check out her website here.

Indie Rocker s & Phil Collins

(watch full screen to read subtitles ;)

Norwegian TV show Lydverket did an interview with Phil Collins, prefaced by interview clips with Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo, Sleigh Bells’ Derek Miller, and Yeasayer’s Anand Wilder talking about their love for Genesis and Collins.

My love for Phil was passed down to me by my lovely mum who used to play 'But Seriously' on our car trips to the beach. I wish he would tour just one more time so we could go. Come on Phil! Do it now while the hipsters are keen!

washington monday

Washinton's new clip - I believe it was filmed in her Dad's house (?). She was amazing (again) at Parklife Festival on the weekend.
